Who we are

The Lanark Print Co. is Billy McMillan (left) and John Douglas (right). We have been working together in Lanark since 1992 and decided to set up the company in January 2009 when we took over a small 2 storey studio in a busy Lanark lane. We have personally dealt with many great customers over the years and are delighted to be carrying on many of those relationships in our current venture as well as developing new ones.

We have a philosophy of treating our customers as we ourselves would wish to be treated, whether it's a photocopy or a 200 page brochure. Plain and simple good service is our mission.

Hey. High time we had an update. It does not look good when you still have a Christmas theme on your website in February! My fault. It must be that we are so busy here that I just forgot to attend to my web duties. Anyway, the next big event we have to look forward to is The Royal Wedding between William and Kate in April and we are accommodating the souvenir hunters from around the world with our Kate and William mugs on Ebay. So far we have shipped them to USA, Australia, Canada, Germany, Finland, France, Croatia, Spain and West Lothian.

The main development we have had in the shop is our brand new digital printer which enables us to do a lot more quality jobs in-house. This means you get cheaper jobs sooner and we get to churn out even more good quality stuff for you. Everyone’s a winner.

Also, please join us on Facebook. We have a new page set up as Lanark PrintCo and it’s worth being a friend of ours as we occasionally like to give away free stuff. We’d quite like to get more people from outside Scotland as well so get joining!

Hello. Well, judging by the snow and the sounds of Cliff Richard emanating from the shops I guess “it’'s that time of year again”. The gingerbread couple on the home page is my current attempt at making the site feel Christmassy. Spectacular I think you'’ll agree. It’'s been a good weekend for our Ebay shop, thanks especially to Wagner staying in the X-Factor. Let’s face it, in reality he’'s not much worse than the other dross on the programme and a lot of people seem to want to wear his name on their chest with pride. Long may it continue. It was also a good weekend personally as I went down to Manchester to watch another recording of Phill (Jupitus) and Phil (Wilding)'’s Perfect 10 Podcast. I decided to take down a couple of “"Wallop"” (their loose catchphrase) t-shirts down with me as a wee gift. We left them on one of their chairs on the stage and when they guys came on Jupitus opened up the bag with the t-shirts in and gave a very nice mention to The Lanark Print Co. If you want to hear it it'’ll be on the next Perfect 10 when it’'s released in a couple of weeks'’ time. You can download it from iTunes. Do it anyway, even if you have no interest in hearing about us, it'’s the funniest thing on iTunes (over 18s only though please, it’'s quite sweary). Even better than that was when Jupitus came out for the 2nd half wearing his “Wallop” t-shirt (photo on the right with myself). Fame at last. Thanks to both of them for a top night. In return I'll happily recommend Mr Wilding's novel "Cross Country Murder Song" and my current, excellent read "Good Morning Nantwich" by Mr Phill Jupitus. Cheers for now, Billy.

Time for a wee update we think. As we’'re crashing towards Christmas at some rate of knots we’'d like to point out our range of Calendars, Christmas Cards and Mugs. These are all done to an incredibly high standard, are fully customised and are cheaper than you might think. We will use your design or give you something completely new at no extra charge. We have only been doing the mugs for a couple of months and they'’re already proving incredibly popular - both in our shop and our Ebay site. Last year our Christmas Cards and Calendars brought us great praise. The photographic ones (kids, family, etc.) proved to be big winners. A very simple idea and a lot more impressive than sending somebody a picture of a cat playing with a bawble (unless it’s YOUR cat playing with the bawble of course!). So give us a shout, let us know what you want and we’ll get it done for you quick sharp ;-)

Wow...just how long is it since I added anything to this? A full 6 months by the look of things. Must try harder.

Well, we'’re still going from strength to strength. This time last year I came back from my holidays and we were pretty quiet, as we had expected for July. Totally different this year, it’'s been great! I came back yesterday to a big pile of work for me to do. Magic. John’'s sales patter must be improving!

In the first half of this year we were overwhelmed by the response to the Ebay shop. In particular the ABE (Anyone But England) t-shirts were flying off the shelves in the run up to the World Cup. Just to show we'’re not prejudiced we also did a roaring trade in SFA (Scotland Failed Again) and SNP (Scotland’'s Not Playing) t-shirts as well. Even though the World Cup is now but a memory we still have a surprising number of people buying these t-shirts with and without the World Cup theme.

We’'re continuing to amaze ourselves with the quality of our work as well. This is improving month upon month as our association with other companies is growing. Our personalised greetings cards and wedding invitations are stunning and our brochures and flyers are of an incredibly high standard...well if you don’'t blow your own trumpet nobody else will. On that note I was impressed this week by our local competitor’'s bold claim of being (and I quote) “"LANARKS PREMIUM PRINTERS"”. Fair play to them, they’'ve managed to achieve that without apparently having an apostrophe button on their keyboard. Well folk’'s were proud to annowns that wee r Lanarks leeding authoritie on punkchuashon and speling sew the choise is you’'res ;-)

Hello! Hope January's been good to you so far. We've just got rid of this snow and things are looking back to normal again. On the shop front we're delighted to see some new and some old faces so far this year. Long may it continue! It will in fact be our 1st anniversary of opening on the 26th, a fact that we're quite proud of given the dire financial reports these past couple of years. Aye you saw it right, that is Santa on our home page! Along with the snowy background and the new red look, it must mean it's November! I hope to add more bells and lights and whistles as the big day gets closer - keeps me amused. We've got an offer up on Twitter just now which is worth looking at...might be offering free stuff ;-). We've got Christmas card catalogues to look at and we've got loads of ideas for your very own customised cards as well. Give us a shout why don't you. ALSO, these JLS hoodies are proving ever more popular, great present ideas, or how about a Baby's First Christmas hoodie or t-shirt? Much better than getting some abomination with a big reindeer on it (although we can do those as well).

Maybe you've got a JLS fan in the house who would LOVE to have their favourite band name on the front and their own name on the back? Perhaps your cook for the day would look great in a customised Christmas apron? Let your imagination run wild and we'll do the rest. Just ask and chances are we'll do it!

I won't usually single out individual clients of ours in this Blog but I reckon one is worthy of a mention. Today we made delivery of a 16 page programme for Bagrock in the Valley. What's that? Well, it's a charity one day festival in aid of Yorkhill Children's Foundation and Cash for Kids and features headliners "The Red Hot Chilli Pipers". It's to be held in Castlebank Park, Lanark on Sunday, 23rd August and they're hoping for a turnout of thousands! Hi, thanks for looking. Not sure how regular this will be but I'll try and update it whenever I remember. If anybody's interested.

Well that's us been here 6 months now and what a quick 6 months it's been. We'd like to thank all our customers old and new, and those of you who still haven't used our services (what's keeping you?!) for your support and we hope that dealing with us has proven to be the pleasant experience we always intended it to be - ok, I know you're only buying printing and t-shirts, it's not great fun, but I hope it's been pleasant all the same.

The new range of neon t-shirts are taking off quite well and look great! The special offer is still on until the end of July so there's plenty of time to take advantage of that. Also, don't forget you can follow us on Twitter - we're up to a massive SIX followers now (although I reckon one of them might be fake) so get tweeting with us and take advantage of our exclusive Twitter offers. We're trying to give away free stuff on there y'know.

Rather amusingly this month we see our local competitors have changed their company name to something VERY similar to ours. I'm not sure if the intention is to confuse the customers into going to the wrong place or if they just don't have the imagination to think of their own name. Whatever the reason behind this rather bizarre move don't be confused. We're THE LANARK PRINT CO. and are not associated with anyone else!
